String Bead is a component fitted to the top of a stringer on the wall side of the staircase. Its function is to cover the gaps between the stringer and the wall. String bead is normally scribed on the wall side to follow any undulations or dips in the walls surface. The material chosen for your string bead should be the same as your wall stringer.
A Fillet is a component of Balustrade and is located in the groove between balusters (spindles). When ordering your Handrail, Floor Capping or String Capping and you have specified a groove size the fillet is already included. If you are grooving your own Handrail or Capping the Fillet should match the timber type.
Scotia is a decorative moulding used in the construction of our Hampton Style Box Newels. Other beading such as our Ovolo Bead, Splayed Bead and Box Newel Bead can be purchased in most timbers and cut to length.
Our String Bead and Fillet is available in all species is of SELECT grade quality. It’s relatively clear and free of defects, however there can be small amounts of gum vein, surface checking (splits), knots and black specks within the SELECT grading. Such defects will not be considered if a refund is requested.
